The 2025 UIL Boys 5A 200 meters turned into a showcase of pure speed and control from Frisco Lone Star junior Davian Groce, who stamped his authority on the race with a dominant 20.52 finish aided by a strong 3.4 m/s wind. With Justin Stewart of Fort Worth Arlington Heights in lane 5 coming off a 100m title earlier in the day, many expected a tight duel - but once Groce exploded out of the blocks and powered through the curve, it was clear this was his race to own. The four-star running back combined strength and fluid sprint mechanics, pulling away decisively in the first 20 meters and never looking back.
Stewart, who had been a force all meet with his 20.64 personal best (with a 3.8 wind reading) and fresh off his 100m victory, found himself in an unusual position - chasing. While he closed well to secure second in 20.84, Groce's early separation left him little room to threaten for the win. Spencer Harvey of Liberty Hill, ran a composed race from lane 7, staying clear of the scramble behind the leaders to grab the bronze in 20.90.
The depth in this race was impressive, with Kaegan Morton of Barbers Hill (21.31) and Ty'Shaun Lloyd of Corsicana (21.38) rounding out the top five in a tight finish. Groce's smooth yet powerful run was one of the day's most commanding performances, hinting at even bigger things ahead as he heads into his senior year.
