Addyson Bristow competes on the 2025 UIL state meet course

The UIL 4A Girls championship race kicked off the first competition of the second day of the UIL State Championship. This morning's race had notably better weather than those who raced in the morning yesterday. 

After a great day of racing yesterday that saw a mix of collegiate-style racing and dominant performances, today promised to be another tight day of racing with multiple individual and team titles up in the air. 

This race marked one of a few this weekend where the individual champion conversation had somewhat of a consensus favorite, with Addyson Bristow of Canyon the heavy favorite to win. She who her third straight UIIL 4A individual cross country title

On the team side, Canyon's team prospects mirrored Bristow's individual prospects as they returned as the heavy favorite. This story remains the same on the boys' side, too, heading into this morning. 

Predictably, Bristow held a big lead through the first split, leading the race by 18 seconds over her teammate Presli Pool. We knew what to expect from Bristow today, and that's exactly what we got through the first mile. Brooke French of Randall rounded out the top five at the mile mark, followed closely by several challengers in the low 5:20s.

On the team side, Canyon's lead was similar to Bristow's as they had just 35 points at the halfway mark, making it look like they were surely en route to their second straight 4A team title.  Compared to second-place Randall, who held a strong second with 65 points. Salado rounded out the top three at the halfway mark with 89, with a comfortable gap to fourth place. 

Over the course of the second mile, Bristow continued to pull away, showcasing yet again why she was the heavy favorite, maintaining her dominance over the 4A division winning a third straight UIL 4A title. She crossed the line in 10:38.80, blowing the field away and securing victory by 37 seconds in what more resembled a morning-long run than an actual race for her. 

Brooke French jumped up a spot to secure the silver medal for Randall in 11:15.20, while Presli Pool just missed out on second place, finishing 0.3 seconds behind in 11:15.50. 

Rebel Rea finished fourth for Randall in 11:19.40, while McCall Boyd finished fifth for Salado in 11:20.80. 

On the team side, Canyon maintained its points total from the halfway mark, taking home a dominant victory with just 35 points to secure the first of two team titles for them this morning. They put all five in the top 12 in the team places and left no room for anyone else to have a viable shot at the title. This was a second consecutive team title for Canyon.

Randall rode two runners in the top four to another strong second-place finish with 77 points, a great margin considering how dominant Canyon has been this season and what we expected coming into this race. 

Salado rounded out the podium with 121 points to claim bronze with a comfortable gap behind. Davenport finished fourth with 175 points, while Fredericksburg finished fifth, one point behind with 176 points. 

This race ultimately ended exactly how it was predicted, with two dominant state titles coming for Canyon. This race likely had one of the wider competitive margins we'll see today, but served as yet another indicator that program consistency leads to sustained success.
