This past weekend we saw a solid start to the 2026 Track and Field season in El Paso, TX. There were many notable performances across the board. Here are some of the performances you want to revisit.
Riverside Invitational Notable Performances:
Boys:
Joshua Mora from El Paso Eastwood starts his senior year off with a bang taking first for the Varsity boys Discus. His winning throw of 153' 11" earned him gold, a good 20 plus feet above second place.
Willem Scholten from El Paso Coronado competed in the 400m with a stacked field and managed to come close to his PR in the first meet of the season. He came in first with a time of 50.11.
Elijay Acree from El Paso Chapin also had a solid performance this past weekend continuing the tradition of fine sprinting display out of Huskie nation. He was able to edge out Guillermo Martinez from El Paso Jefferson to win first in the 200m with a time of 23.48.
Noah Loweree and Noah Garcia, aka Noah squared, continue the tradition of exemplary distance running in El Paso where they took first and second in the 3200m. With a stacked field that saw 7 athletes under 10 minutes, only 11 milliseconds separated these two Eastwood runners with Loweree coming in first followed by Garcia. Their times were 9:32.44 and 9:32.55.
Girls:
Nuria Herrera-Serrat from El Paso Eastwood had a solid start to the year with an impressive 300 hurdles performance. She faced some solid competition with Sophia Balmer from El Paso Parkland and 3 runners out of El Paso Coronado. Herrera-Serrat would clear the field by 4 seconds finishing first with a time of 48.76.
Three ladies from El Paso Chapin shook up the 100m scene as we saw them crush the track. Laurin Gardner, Ambrielle Buckley and Aahniyah Clayton would take 1, 2, 3 with their finishing times being 12.21, 12.93, and 13.02 respectively. Keep an eye on these girls!
Alexis Aguayo continued El Paso Coronado's tradition of being able to produce some of the city's top pole vaulters when she took first this past weekend. This senior's best attempt came in at 10' 0" flat earning her some gold by a good foot and a half above the rest of the competition.

Boys:
El Paso Hanks senior Ky-Ri Bonner has established himself at the top right off the jump as he saw a blistering quick 400m performance. His 46.73 gold place time has already shaken up the 400m scene for Texas as he currently sits atop the rankings at #1.

El Paso Eastlake senior Miguel Alcantar started the 2026 Track season in dominant fashion when he would win Triple Jump gold at Montwood Invitational with a mark of 41-10. This was also the top mark in varsity Triple Jumping for the weekend overall.
The mid distance scene was capped off with a solid performance from El Paso Pebble Hills runner Zyler Garnica. Garnica would finish third in the 800m with an impressive 2:01.26. There's a lot of potential for this mid distance runner.
El Paso Franklin senior Jacob Martinez continues the momentum from his 2025 Cross Country season as he took gold in the 1600m. Martinez competed against a stacked field with 6 runners going under 4:45. His veteran experience came into play as he dominated the field to finish first with a time of 4:25.31.
Girls:
Samaya Scranton from El Paso Franklin continues to be the premiere 400m athlete in West Texas with another insane performance. The Franklin senior would finish first with a time of 57.15 immediately putting her in the top 5 400m runners in Texas.
El Paso Eastlake thrower Vanneaya Nieves competed against some stiff competition in the Varsity girls Shot Put. She was able to edge out her teammate Maya Ross to take first with a throw of 33-8, a solid start for the Eastlake senior.
Kaylee Groth from El Paso Andress is showing real potential at a young and upcoming hurdler as she came out on top in the 100 hurdles. Competing against some solid El Paso Franklin Hurdlers, Groth was able to edge them out to win some gold. Her first place time was 17.09. We will definitely need to keep an eye on this young Sophomore athlete.
