Millions of teenagers and college students - along with their teachers and professors - are enjoying a week off for the traditional spring break. Whether at the beach, in the mountains, on a mission trip or spending time with friends, it's a chance to recharge before the second half of the season begins. The postseason will be here soon enough.
Before competition ramps up again, here's a look at four athletes who have blossomed heading into the break.

Sam CdeBaca - Houston Christian senior
CdeBaca is having a season to remember. As of the week ending March 14, he ranks second in the SPC in the 100 meters (10.81) while leading the conference in the 200 (21.83), 400 (47.84) and long jump (23 feet, 10 inches). He also runs the second leg on the SPC's fourth-ranked 4x100 relay team (43.88).

Taylor Synnott - The St. John's sophomore has been dominant in cross country and on the track. Synnott leads the SPC in the 800 (2:20.40) and ranks second in both the 1,600 (5:13.59) and 3,200 (11:07.84). She also runs the second leg on the SPC-leading 4x400 relay (4:12.63).

Nick Payne - A rising star on the football field, Bishop Lynch junior Payne is coming into his own in track and field. Over the past month, he has broken 11 seconds in the 100 three times, improving from 10.99 to 10.92 and now a TAPPS-leading 10.82. He ranks third in the 200 (22.29), runs the third leg on the 4x100 relay, and sits in the top 20 in both the long jump (20-4 1/2) and triple jump (38-10).

Michaela Grimes - The senior is a key contributor for St. Agnes. Grimes has expanded her range to include sprints. Previously known as a hurdler, she now leads TAPPS in the 200 (23.96), ranks second in the 100 (11.95) and 400 (56.94), and leads the 300 hurdles (44.26). She also anchors the third-best 4x100 relay in TAPPS (49.77).
