The Freshman Experience by Dana Robbins

Hi, everybody!  My name is Dana Robbins, and I am a
freshman at Texas Lutheran University.  I am so thankful that I was given the
opportunity to run cross country in college.  Coming into this season, I had no
idea what to expect and I was a little scared.  Fortunately, I was welcomed by a
great team of girls and two wonderful coaches.  In high school, I was an average
runner, but I kept at it because I like to run.  My high school team wasn't
really close, and so becoming a part of the TLU team was a new experience.  The
TLU team has a history of winning, but we focus on team unity and friendship in
addition to excellence.  All the girls on our team are there to support and
encourage each other; in running, in academics, and in anything else we might
need.  We have a specific group to run with in meets and practice, to push each
other and motivate each other, and finish together.  We also have Fun Fridays
every week and plan something different to do as a team.  This season, because I
enjoy the sense of being a close team and working hard together, I feel that I
have already improved a lot since high school.

In Division 3 cross country, we are all here
because we like to run and we want to get a good education.  I don't wake up in
the morning and think, "I have to go to practice this morning."  I wake up
really excited because I get to have fun working out with my teammates and
improving in running.  It is so wonderful to have become a part of such a great
team.  Thanks, guys!!!
