Lucas
Lovejoy and Smithson Valley went head-to-head for the 2025 UIL 5A Girls Cross
Country State title. It came down to the #5 runners. Lovejoy's finished 25
places in front of Smithson Valley's and won the title by 12 points even though
Smithson Valley had a faster average time. The two programs could be headed to
a third straight season where they finish 1-2 at the State meet.
Top Teams
Boerne Champion - They bring
back a solid six runners from last year. Rebecca Bezerra and Emma Radtke each
broke 19 minutes on the State meet course, setting the foundation for another
strong season.
Grapevine - Brings back a
strong top-4 runners and will be battle-tested from a tough district. All four
of the runners are underclassmen, which bodes well for the future. If they have
a runner take a nice step forward, they can compete for a spot on the podium.
Highland Park - Already locked
and loaded with a strong 1-5 lineup. A true #1 runner would go a long way to
help separate them from a few other teams on this list. It appears they will be
competing for a podium spot if all goes well.
Lucas Lovejoy - This powerhouse
program needs to replace four of their top seven spots from last year's State
title team, but they have multiple runners ready to move up. Sophomore Emily Armstrong is their top returner and hopes to lead the team to a repeat
championship.
Smithson Valley - The Rangers
return six scoring runners from their Runner-Up finish last year. Aubrey Pozzi is
a returning Regional champion and is joined by two others who broke 19 minutes
on the State meet course. A huge 'X' factor is if Brady Solansky, 3rd
place in 2024, returns to full health after missing both the cross country and
track seasons last year.
Best of the Rest
A&M Consolidated - Rowen Skinner leads a solid group of returners that are poised for a great season.
Burleson Centennial - Only program
to return all seven runners from last year's State meet.
Frisco Reedy - Six returners
from last year with a chance to make a big move up the standings after
finishing 13th last year.
Georgetown - Another program
with six returners but needs one more top-quality runner to really compete.
New Braunfels - Savanah Moya
will fight it out for an individual state title. Can she drag the rest of her
team to a new level?
