Also on Friday, at the EMREY/ESU WARRIOR CLASSIC @ East Stroudsburg University, Harrisburg smoked a PA#1 4x400. At the CITIBANK HISPANIC GAMES at the New York Armory, Cheltenham senior Brandon Bing introduced himself to the 2007 national scene by taking two races, the 55 and 200 (US#1). Bing beat some great competition, including Simon Gratz junior Khaliff Featherstone, 5th in the 200. Featherstone took second in the finals of the 400, the fourth fastest time on the day. At Saturday\'s TSTCA INDOOR MEET #1@ the University of Pittsburgh, the throws were, as always, out there. There is a new #1 in the state in the shot put, as Hempfield senior Westin Banks unleashed a throw over 57\'. At the KUTZTOWN INVITATIONAL, Chanelle Price of Easton sent more shockwaves through the state and beyond following her 12/29 Burdette Classic performance. She became the first PA girl to go under five this season. Second in the race was Central Cambria junior Carly Seymour. She most likely would have been closer to Price, but it was Seymour\'s second race of the day. She won the meet\'s opening event, the 3000, in one of the top times in the state. At the TFCAGP D1 INDOOR MEET #5 @ Haverford College, Glen Mill\'s Bernard Goodwyn ripped the 400. Jay Pittenger continued his strong high jumps, In the 60 hurdles, Archbishop Ryan\'s Kashif Thompson posted a PA#1 tie. At the TFCAGP D2 INDOOR MEET #5 @ Haverford College, there were some pretty impressive meet records rewritten. The DMR mark of 10:41.1 was set in 1987 by Penncrest. Well, Wissahickon and West Chester Henderson both crushed it. Penn Charter\'s Dareem David broke the 2003 meet record of 6.9 by Conwell-Egan\'s Steve Slaton in the 60 dash. Chestnut Hill Academy\'s Wayne Crawford neared his season best in the shot put. At the LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE INDOOR MEET #1, two girls cleared 5-04. At her home championships, she threw over 47 for the third time this season. Penn Wood\'s girls posted the best 4x200 in the state so far, holding off three other teams by less than two seconds as well. Archbishop Carroll freshman Amanda Bascelli posted the fastest 3000 of the year. (Photo: Scott Van Kooten anchors Pgh Central Catholic to a DMR win, splitting 4:34 - photo by Jeremy Lenzi)

At the MARINE CORPS INDOOR CLASSIC in New York, defending 800 champ Shaniel Chambers of Chester won again. On Friday at week #1 of the COLGATE WOMEN\'S GAMES @ Pratt Institute in NY, Syeeda Gee of Engineering & Science had a great first night, winning the HS 1500 and taking 3rd in the 800. At the SETON HALL INVITATIONAL, Chester\'s girls captured two relays, winning the 1600 Sprint Medley Relay and the 4x200. At the ROBERT J. BURDETTE INDOOR CLASSIC @ Lehigh University, there were a lot of dropped jaws after several of the performances at this always-deep meet. The fact that one of the more shocked individuals happened to be one of the athletes may come as a surprise. All junior Chanelle Price of Easton did was pull off a triple that included three meet records and set the stage for more indoor performances that could have all-time implications. Methacton\'s Ryann Krais won the 400. She then anchored the 4x200 to a win with her lap of 24.7 after spotting a 35 meter advantage on the exchange. Also setting the stage for a big year from Easton was Abby Schaffer in the Pole Vault. Junior Karen Shump, Penncrest, won the Shot Put. And West Catholic\'s Simone Carter captured the 60-200 sprint double. (Photo of Ryann Krais anchoring the winning 4x200 in a split of 24.7)

Central Bucks West was 2nd in 9:48.2 behind a 2:15 anchor by senior Liz Kearins (In PennTrackXC.com photo), who got the baton in 11th place. 11 teams bettered 10:00. Germantown Academy\'s Kacie Kergides set a DVGTCA fieldhouse record by almost ten seconds in the 300m. Ridley\'s Samantha Smarkola also set a fieldhouse record, winning the 600m. Courtney Kedra of Phoenixville won the long jump, bettering 17\'. And Karen Shump of Penncrest was the winner in the Shot Put, going over 44-03.50, also a fieldhouse record. At the TFCAGP D1 INDOOR MEET #4, eastern PA pole vaulter Joe Berry was in a zone few from the east have ventured over recent years. His 15-01 is a very strong early season effort, and a PR for the senior, indoor or outdoor. North Penn\'s Mike Joell cruised through the 60 just over 7 seconds. Neshaminy\'s Tim Bech triple jumped over 43 and Vince Formica of Central Bucks South long jumped over 21. At the TFCAGP D2 INDOOR MEET #4 @ LEHIGH UNIVERSITY, Chestnut Hill Academy senior Wayne Crowford bested 55\' in the Shot Put for the third time this young season. 12/16 INDOOR WEEK #3 SUMMARY:

You could consider the 12/15 HILL SCHOOL INVITATIONAL Ryann Krais\' early December warm-ups. The Methacton junior won three individual events and anchored the winning 4x400. Glen Mills\' Semaj Spencer took two, the high and long jumps. And Chestnut Hill Academy\'s Wayne Crawford was out there nicely in the shot put, going nearly 57 feet. On Saturday at Haverford College in the TFCAGP D2 INDOOR MEET #3, Strath Haven\'s Rob Speare posted a very quick 8:52.6 3000, which amazingly, is the 2nd best 3K over the first three weeks of the season. In the 800, Khaliff Featherstone, Simon Gratz; Elliott Rhodes, Germantown Academy; and Jamar Jones, Engineering & Science, all broke two minutes, but none were under 1:59. Can you say tight? At the DICKINSON COLLEGE HS INVITE #1, the girls 55 hurdles were quick with Hughesville\'s Rachel Houseknecht edging Reading\'s Jazmin Hunt. 12/2 XC WEEK #13-INDOOR WEEK #1 SUMMARY:

Northeast #1 and PA AAA State Champs Coatesville is the NIKE TEAM NATIONALS champion! They led at 2k, were 3rd at 3k, but back in the lead at 4k and 5k. Oh, and those NW teams were US#1 and #2. On the girls side, the Northeast took three of the top four spots, with Fayetteville-Manliius NY 1st, Hilton NY 2nd, and Colts Neck NY 4th. Kinda looks like they could have gone four deep again in the Northeast. Now a junior, Penncrest\'s Karen Shump came out Friday night at the DVGTCA INDOOR MEET #1 and quickly made a statement to PA that she has been working, and working hard. Try 47-10.50. That is over a foot more than her indoor PR, almost three feet more than she began indoor last year, and within 1.75\" of her overall PR set as a freshman. The mark is a DVGTCA record. Ryann Krais won the 400 and anchored the winning Methacton 4x200. The 3000 was quick, and E&S and Radnor made a race of it in the 4x800. At the TFCAGP D1 INDOOR MEET #1 at Lehigh, the boys of Boyertown made their marks on the early distance rankings. State AAA cross country champ Jason Weller went 4:24.7 for the mile and Mark Dennin ran 9:01.5 to take the 3000. William Tennent\'s Jay Pittenger cleared a huge 6-10 in the High Jump. Also at Lehigh in the TFCAGP D2 INDOOR MEET #1 Germantown Friends\' Max Kaulbach also ran 9:01.5 in his 3000. Two guys topped 50\' in the Shot Put, and Strath Haven became the first team under 11 in the Distance Medley Relay - which will be contested at States for the first time. At the AAU NATIONAL XC CHAMPIONSHIPS in Orlando, Florida, The Lehigh Valley Road Runners made the trip worthwhile, taking 4th in the Intermediate Girls race behind four Emmaus athletes. Brittany Jackson of Girls High in Philadelphia, was 17th in the Young Women\'s race. The Lehigh valley Road Runners took 7th in Young Men behind Matt Simkin\'s 8th place. At the ALBRIGHT COLLEGE HS INVITE #1, quick time in the 55, 55H, 400 for the boys, and a nice shot by a Norristown thrower.

US #13 Radnor girls do not receive a bid for NTN... but now it\'s time to celebrate. Don Rich Nov 26, 2006

Despite intense and repeated efforts to logically pursuade the Nike Team Nationals selection committee of the merits of offering the NE #4 Radnor girls an at-large bid, the offer has gone to the 3rd ranked team in Calinfornia. The team had been CA #5 until finishing 3rd at Saturday\'s CA State Champs in the combined score. They are unranked in the latest Harrier Super 25, while Radnor is ranked #13 (December 4th 2006. Vol 31, issue #V). However, it is time to celebrate the accomplishments of this team... because an NTN bid would have only been the a bonus, not an end....

Foot Locker Northeast: Spence-Seymour, 1 & 3; Springer, 9 (Captions Added) Don Rich Nov 22, 2006

The conditions were ripe for fast. Temps in the low 50\'s. Light breeze. Blazing late fall sun. Dry ground. And very talented girls. And boy (sorry, I mean girl), was it fast. 5:20 fast for the first mile. For some, it was foreign territory. And those athletes paid throughout the hills. For others who didn\'t quite keep up early, it was a blessing in disguise. When the leaves settled, Neely Spence had won, with Carly Seymour in 3rd. Kacey Gibson, Lara Crofford and Allison Sikora also made all-Northeast teams. In the boys race, it was a rough day for three of PA\'s top runners. And it wasn\'t just the competition. State AAA runner-up, senior Paul Springer of Unionville survived his brush with a school-assigned, ill-timed lifting session this past Monday to finish 9th and earn one of the coveted spots at Foot Locker Nationals. Vince McNally overcame a fall early in the race, and a brush with a Foot Locker announcer going by the finish line just after the start, to take 13th. And Boyertown senior Jason Weller took a spill in the woods, and never really had his legs under him. He would finish 23rd, also making the all-Northeast team.

11/18 WKND: Coatesville, Radnor dominant @ Last Gasp|PA Girls 3rd behind Crofford in Ohio Don Rich Nov 18, 2006

11/18 WEEK #11 SUMMARY:

The Bridgetown Track Club tried out a new name, a new meet and a new course, figuratively and literally, but their results at the 2006 LAST GASP CLASSIC had a similar ring. The boys from the town of Coatesville were once again victorious in dominant fashion. Recovering from an illness earlier in the week, Liz Milewski of the Legit Track Club, fought off fatigue to finish 3rd in the race, leading her teammates from Radnor in taking five of the top nine spots. The course had been redesigned for a fourth time this season due to construction of a new water system, and runners were forced to navigate five former dig areas, some with heavy equipment tracks and rocks... not exactly cross country, but an interesting addition to the somewhat muddy conditions due to Thursday\'s torrential rains. At the MID-EAST REGIONALS in Ohio, Big Spring senior Lara Crofford led the PA team to a 3rd place finish. Pittsburgh Central Catholic\'s Scott Van Kooten was the top finisher for the PA boys. In western PA at the USATF REGION 2 CHAMPIONSHIPS at Cooper\'s Lake, Gettysburg freshman Michael Beegle took 2nd in 13:45.90. In Florida at the NCAA DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIPS, East Pennsboro grad and Lock Haven University senior Ryan Blood finished 4th to earn all-American status in his final cross country race. His effort led his team to 11th place overall. Also on Saturday, Allegheny College\'s men finished 3rd overall at the NCAA DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIPS in Ohio, while the Dickinson College women took 6th. Jed Christiansen and Jon Gries ran 2-3 for the champion Calvin College squad. In the NCAA DIVISION I CHAMPIONSHIPS on Monday, Dan Mazzocco (Penn State/Baldwin) earned another all-American certificate. Craig Miller (Wisconsin/Manheim Township) scored 5th for the 2nd place Badgers. Ian Fitzgerald (William & Mary/North Hills) and David Mock (William & Mary/Westmont-Hilltop) ran 3-4 for the 8th place Tribe. Villanova junior Frances Koons (Allentown Central Catholic) was with the leaders at the halfway point, but finished 87th after losing power with 2K to go. Lauretta Dezubay (Virginia/Freedom) scored for the 14th place University of Virginia.
