Abeyta and Armendariz Battle For Top Spot In El Paso

Girls Race

  • Brooke Woodson Junior from Jefferson went out strong took the early lead, with a mile into the race Andrea Abeyta from Hanks took the lead but charging fast was Brianna Armendariz with Anisa Burciaga from Canutillo closing in. Three fourths of the way through the race it was a two way battle for the lead and Armendariz charged ahead taking a 10 meter lead on the Abeyta the Sophomore from Hanks. The race came down to the last 500 where Abeyta exerted her kick and passed Armendariz who was fighting her off. Abeyta extended the lead and held off Armendariz, Ayla Lopez Senior from Franklin rouded out the top 3. These two young ladies have just exchanged victories with Abeyta winning round 2 and Armendariz winning round 1. Round 3 will be fun at the clint Horizon meet.

Boys Race

  • This race was a 2 person race early with Adam Cortez from Franklin and Bryan Lujan from Americas the first leg of the race, they broke away from most of the field early, with a couple left in striking distance. This race on the back half got tight for position 2-4 as Bryan Lujan, Sebastian Moreno and Jose Villalobos were battling. Meanwhile Adam Cortez was exhorting his control on the race and went un challenged the rest of the way and he cruised to what seemed like an easy victory on this very difficult course. The battle for the 2-4 spots continued and Sebastian Moreno the tremendous kicker from El Dorado put it on display and got second, While the Americas Teammates came in 3rd and 4th respectively. There is still much to be settled in El Paso.
