Girls Sprints/Hurdles

Tonea Marshall running at last year's UK Invitational

60m (2015-2016 National Indoor Leader Boards)

Just like the guys races, the girls sprint races are also STACKED! The top SIX returning 60m dash runners in the state will all be at the meet! Tonea Marshall holds the number one texas returning spot with her time of 7.47. She placed 2nd at last year's UK High School Invitational with that time. The Arlington Seguin senior is going to have some fierce competition from the 2nd fastest Texas 60m dash returner Kira White from Desoto. White ran her PR of 7.57 to win last year Arkansas High School Invitational. The other top returners are
I'Shunique Hamilton (3rd 7.59), Samiyah Samuels (4th 7.61), and Daja Gordon (5th 7.65), Kaylor Harris (6th 7.71). We're sure to see a show down in this race with the definite possibility of some U.S. top times being run!

With 404 entries, this is the biggest race guys or girls that will be run this weekend. The one who currently leads them all with the fastest Texas indoor returning 200m time is Danyel White from Cedar Hill. White placed 2nd in the meet last year running 24.74. Her PR of 24.17 comes from the Arkansas High School Invitational. The runner White placed 2nd to was Plano Prestonwood Christian's Jaevin Reed. Reed will also be back this year looking to reclaim her win in the 200m. Daja Gordon and Tonea Marshall will also both be in this race and are the 3rd and 4th fastest returners respectively.  We will also see Gordon's teammate Diana Granados in this race as well. Granados has the 6th fastest returning time of 24.95 behind Keller Timber Creek's Jhane' King (24.84). Both Granados and King have the potential to shake things up in a race/event that's sure to be a thriller! One last girl who needs to be mentioned (we could talk about several runners all day!) is Takyera Roberson from Houston Wheatley. Roberson finished 3rd last year in the class 4A 100m (11.60), and 4th in the 200m (24.04).

Amber Ivy

Cypress Creek's Amber Ivy will have the target on her back in this one. She holds the fastest returning time of  56.71 which she ran to place 16th in the prelims at New Balance Nationals Indoor last year. Ivy also placed 5th in the 400m at last year's state meet. Paige Kimble will be another girl to watch. Kimble has the 6th fastest texas returning 400m time with a 57.55. Last year she finished 5th overall.  Two more girls who are on the top 10 Texas indoor 400m returners list are Converse Judson junior Ariel Watson (58.97) and Diana Granados (57.26) who have the 10th and 4th fastest returning times respectively. We can't go without mentioning Symone Mason here. She's coming all the way from Florida and placed 1st in the USATF Would Youth Track and Field Trials and 8th in the 9th IAAF World Youth Championships this past summer. She could definitely shake things up this weekend.

60mH (2015-2016 National Leader Boards)

This one could come down to a neck and neck battle between Alexis Duncan and Tonea Marshall. These two ladies are the first and second 60mH returners in the state of Texas. Duncan has run 8.35 to take the first spot while Marshall is just behind her in the second spot at 8.39. This will be a close battle for sure especially because  Kennedy Bailey (3rd), Javlyn Cameron (5th), Chase Martin (6th) and Jernaya Sharp (7th) will all be in the mix, and all four girls rank in the top 10 on the returning 60mH list. You should also keep any eye on Californian Tara Davis who could make a big splash in the national rankings as well.
