Why: Last year, Saltillo dominated the state meet by only scoring 59 points and running to a 25 second split. They will be trying to make it two straight titles, but they'll have to battle Cumby Miller Grove who has been one of 1As top teams over the last several years is going to try to finally get the top spot. They have run blazing fast this year and averaged a 17:01.21 at regionals.
Individuals: Austin Zirkel won the 2015 race, but wasn't able repeat it last year as Dustin Dominey of Spur took the state title. Dominey has looked good this year, but he lost the Region 1 meet to Spur's Alejandro Chavez. Chavez was second last year as a sophomore, but he is probably eyeing one spot better this year. In the past, Chavez has beat Dominey at regionals and not at the state meet, so we'll have to see how it plays out. One thing is for sure, Zirkel, Dominey, and Chavez will provide an exciting individual match up!
