Interview with McAllen Memorial boys after their 2nd place finish at RGVCCCA Meet of Champions 2017

McAllen Memorial Boys Big 3 Deliver Big Performances to Take Boys Elite Title

Rio Grande City took down McAllen Memorial last year in the ultimate showcase of depth. While their 1-5 split was last out of the top five teams, Rio Grande City had a top 2 finisher, five seconds separating their 2-4 runners, and a fifth runner who ran only 13 seconds behind them. The split between 2-5 was an astounding 18 seconds. McAllen Memorial came in 2nd with 123 points with Edinburg Vela finishing with 124 points and Harlingen High finishing with 125.

While depth and close scores were the story in 2017, that will not be the case in 2018 as McAllen Memorial comes in with three potential top five finishers in 2018 and a team that would've easily taken the FEAST Patriot Invitational if they were at full strength. Led by Christian Garza and twins Trevor and Evan Williams, the Mustangs have a top heavy team that is bolstered by 2017 top 20 finisher Jorge Perez and freshman standout Sebastian Salinas. While the Vipers still have solid depth, they lost 2nd place finisher Brandon Garcia to graduation and need to shorten the gaps between one another significantly to stand a chance against Memorial's three headed monster.
