Brighton Mooney won the Frisco ISD Invitational with a new 18:02.97 PR
Since the pandemic came into effect and has been introduced to the world, we've either heard of people who have lost someone, saw it on the news, or we've personally lost someone to COVID.
It has changed the world in several ways and has taken advantage of the way we used to live and currently do.
However, there is one young lady who has taken advantage of COVID and used the effects adversely to her advantage athletically -- Brighton Mooney.
The Frisco Independence senior admitted the pandemic helped her athletically, "If it weren't for COVID I don't think I'd be the athlete I was today, nor have the success I have today."
"COVID gave me a time to get myself together and further me in both sports, soccer and cross country."Brighton Mooney, Frisco Independence senior
Without in person learning in schools starting last March, many youth, high school, and collegiate athletes were able to train like professional athletes. "COVID gave me a time to get myself together and further me in both sports, soccer and cross country," Mooney added.
Being a two sport star, Mooney is just at the start of her second year running cross country. Last season, she qualified for the UIL 5A state meet last fall and ran a 18:23.22 PR and finished 15th.
This season, Mooney has been on a roll and over the weekend, she won her second meet of the year at last Saturday's Frisco ISD Invitational in a new 18:02.97 personal best.
Year two could be huge as Mooney is already opening eyes. She said, "It's a way faster transition than it was last year. Everyone is asking where I came from or if I'm a move in."
If you don't know Brighton Mooney by now, you should and you eventually will.
