The boys UIL 2A 3,200m was Caden Thurman's (Wolfe City) to lose. The defending state champ in the event came out aggressive from the beginning and prove losing wasn't an option.

The fist lap saw Thurman carry a slim lead over Taylor Warrick (Stockdale), but that quickly grew into nearly two seconds to six on lap three and fastly approaching to a 10-second gap by the halfway mark.

In a race that was never really threatened, Thurman was self pacing consistent 1:09 laps squeezed between the first two and last half miles.

Seniors Warrick and Dwight DonJuan (Quanah) were busy doing battle for the other two medals. Warrick would grab the silver with DonJuan securing the bronze medal.

In the end, Thurman not only captured another state title, but he was able to etch his name in black and white by setting a new UIL 2A state meet record. With a finishing time of 9:06.21, he eclipsed the 9:22.03 set by Julian Acuna (Agua Dulce) in 2001.
