Girls Meet Preview
Anna Elkin won the Plano ISD Invitational last weekend and has the fastest time this year coming into the meet.
The girls individual race is shaping up to be a battle between a strong pack of ladies. Leading the charge with the fastest time this year is Lewisville Hebron's Anna Elkin. Elkin ran 18:20 to win the Plano ISD Invitational last weekend. She will have some tough challengers this weekend including Grapevine's Skyler Simon who placed 3rd last weekend at Marcus I running 18:21. Three other girls right on their heels are Arlington Martin's Ashley Johnson and Keller's Abbey Santoro and Julia Black. All three ladies have run in the 18:30 range this year. Johnson finished 4th last year at Marcus I, while Santoro and Black were just seconds behind her in 6th and 7th. New Braunfels' Paige Hofstad, who placed 2nd at NXN last year and 4th at Foot Locker, will also be in the field. She ran for the first time this year just last weekend. Hofstad won the New Braunfels Invite 3,000 in 10:27. She did not have a chance to run this track season due to injury, but the senior has a 5k PR of 16:47. If running at full force, she will be a strong contender for the win.
The girls from Southlake Carroll will look for a win this weekend after placing second to the Marcus ladies last weekend. They have the best top five split in the field with only a 22 second gap between them. Their top five have all run 19:25 or better for 5k. They will be a force to be reckoned with for sure. Keller is another team that will be looking for a top finish, after their young squad placed 3rd at Marcus I last weekend. Both Lewisville Hebron and Grapevine have strong leaders but will have to close down the gap between their lead runners and 5th girl, if they want a podium finish. The race for third will come down to those key 4th and 5th runners and the teams who have the most depth on their squad.
