Boys Varsity 6A Recap

The guys race was set to be a battle from the start with several of the top guys in the state in the race. Being still early in the day conditions weren't too bad and we saw some guys roll out some fast times. The race was led by a strong pack of guys in David Strome, Sam Worley and Timou Toure through the first mile. That pack didn't last long as Strome made a move around a mile and a half in which he opened up a large gap on the field. It then came down to a battle for 2nd and 3rd between Sam Worley, Connor O'neill who had moved upm and Jenk's (OK) Matthew Young. Worley didn't wait long breaking away from the rest two and a half miles in. It was almost a costly move as he pulled away from O'neill right at the line as O'neill tried to catch Worley with his kick. Strome ended up finishing the course in a new U.S. No. 4 time of 15:05. Worley ran 15:22 pulling away from O'neill (15:23) right at the line. The next two guys were Young in 4th and Timou in 5th. After them the next 9 times were all sub 16 minutes. The top five guys in the meet all rank with in the top 30 in the country.
Team Recap:
The team battle was won by Saucony Flo50 16th ranked Jenks from (OK) .They took home the championship plaque with 141 points. The next closest team was Lewisville Hebron who scored 171 points to take 2nd. The Hawks were led by senior Drew Cummings who finished 13th running 15:50. Rounding out the top three places in third was Dallas Jesuit who edged out Frisco Wakeland by only 4 points to get a top 3 spot.
