10 Things To Watch At Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic

The Boys 60m Dash

The current U.S. No. 1 in the 60m dash is in serious jeopardy this weekend. Currently, it's a
6.77 run by Lavonte Valentine, but with the amount of speed in College Station, we could see it go down in the prelims depending on who's matched up in each heat. Two of the serious contenders are both from Manvel: Jaren Colbert and Caleb Jolivette. Jolivette has the fastest returning time of 6.85, which he ran to place second at the Carl Lewis Invitational. He lost only to his cousin Brandon Taylor, who now attends the University of Miami. Jolivette was also the third-place finisher in the 100m at last year's 6A state meet. His teammate Colbert could also make a big splash in this one as he comes in with the fourth-fastest 60m returning time (6.97) in the state of Texas. They will not be the only two dogs in this fight though, not by a long shot. Their new 5A state rivals, the Fort Bend Marshall Buffs, will also have two dogs of their own in this fight in Myles Lafluer and Cederian LynchLafluer ran at Fort Bend Ridge Point last year and dropped a 10.44 for the 12th-fastest all-conditions returning 100m time in the state of Texas. With training from coach Lloyd Banks, it will be exciting to see how Lafluer runs this weekend aginst the Buffs' new class 5A rivals. Lynch is another strong runner on the Buffs squad to keep an eye on. The senior holds the 10th-fastest returning 60m dash time of 7.07.

Five other big names we need to watch are Champion AllisonCameron MontgomeryJoseph Sheffield
Keshawn Everly, and London Dunn. Allison is known not only nationwide but also worldwide for his 400m speed, having helped Team USA to a gold medal in the 4x400m relay at last summer's U20 World Championships. Don't let him fool you, Allison can also bring the speed in the 100m as well. The George Ranch senior and University of Alabama commit ties Lafluer for the 12th-fastest all-conditions returning 100m time in the state at 10.44 (+2.4). Montgomery was the 4A state champion in the 100m dash and holds the 11th-fastest all-conditions returning 100m time of 10.43. Sheffield has the second-fastest returning 60m dash time in the state, only behind Jolivette. His 6.89 is only .04 off the No. 1 returning time run by Jolivette. Everly comes into this season having run the fastest returning all-conditions 100m time in the state with his 10.14. Lastly is DeSoto's London Dunn, who was relatively quiet last season due to a nagging injury. However, he appears to be on the entry list for this weekend's race, so it will be interesting to see what he brings to the table. The seniors run a 6.92 60m dash and a 10.35 all-conditions 100m dash.

With 225 athletes entered, I apologize if I missed someone, especially because it's possible for anyone to have a big breakout race. Below are a few other guys we noticed who ran well at the state meet or ran a fast 60m or 100m time during the 2016 season.
