Analysis: Owen comes off of a cross season that was nowhere to what she was really capable of doing. In 2016, sickness held back one of the top runners in the state. Owen fought back to be able to toe the line in time for the district meet and eventually helped her Marcus team qualify for the state meet. In fact, the few meets that she was able to compete in she was able to perform better and better with each race. Owen eventually ran well enough to place 10th at the NXN South Regional meet in a season's best 18:07.16.
Owen's health returned to full strength as did her usual form during track season. If we forgot what Owen was capable of during cross season, she definitely reminded all of the talent she possesses. By the end of track season, Owen collected a third place medal in the 3200m at the UIL 6A state track meet and a 10:25.71 PR. She also won the gold medal taking down the defending Texas UIL 6A 1600m champ and she did in a 4:47.32 PR.
If Owen returns to form during the 2017 cross season as she did in track season, watch out because this ranking could mean absolutely nothing when the time rolls around!
