Bryson Stubblefield of Greater Houston Track Club had his work cut out for him at the AAU Junior Olympic Games. He qualified for the meet in the 100m, 200m, and his team's 4x100 relay qualified.
That meant he could have a lot of running to do. If things went as planned, he could have three rounds (prelims, semi-finals, and finals) in each individual event and two rounds in the 4x100 relay.
And that he did. The Fort Bend Marshall junior was set to be was one of the busiest athletes in Des Moines, Iowa. Stubblefield would matriculate through the qualifying rounds of each event throughout the week until the finals came around on Saturday. Beginning on Monday of that week, he would have one race per day through Friday.
When Saturday arrived, Stubblefield had to be exhausted. However, there was no time to be weary as he would have to face the fastest individuals in the nation of his age group in all three events.
The day proved successful as he would rise to the challenge and conquer just about all by winning both the 100m and 200m races with his 10.82 (-1.2) and 21.69 (-0.5). His Greater Houston club team was shooting for the Gold as they were the favorites to win the boys 15-16 y.o. 4x100 relay coming in with their 41.95 prelim time, but they will have to live with a valiant runner-up finish to the North Texas Jackrabbits.
As Stubblefield travels back to Houston, maybe he can get some well deserved rest from a long but successful week.
