The season just started, but Ursuline Academy of Dallas (DUA) is used to being chased. They have won the TAPPS 6A state team title for three straight years and five of the last six cross country seasons. They are accustomed to having the target on their backs.
Teams have brought their best to the TAPPS state meet year in and year out with hopes of walking away with with the TAPPS 6A state trophy, but have been mostly unsuccessful in knocking off the Lady Bears.
However, many think this is the year that DUA is vulnerable again. They graduated several seniors and big time runners from the program.
This weekend, DUA ran with the best of the best at the Marcus I Invitational. Their number one runner Elise Welch competed in the Elite division and finished 13th overall in 18:38. The rest of the team ran in the Open Varsity race and placed third overall with a 20:40 team average and a 1:47 split.
If you thought DUA was done, you might want to think again.
Sticking with TAPPS 6A girls, the Houston Incarnate Word girls also ran well this weekend. They competed Thursday at the Montgomery Moonlight Madness Invitational. They put all of their heavy hitters in the JV girls 2 Mile race showing they were clearly the class of the race as they won. Freshman Anora Lee led the team as she won the race in 13:37.93. she was followed by sophomores Mandy Stockton and Madeline Taylor who joined her in the top ten.
They finished the race ahead of a 12 other UIL 5A and 6A teams and with a 14:25 2 Mile team average with a 1:37 split.
