Three Observations From The RGVCCCA Meet Of Champions

Observation 3 - Region 4 Boys Team Race Will Be Good!

The Region 4-6A boys race will be a good one. There are several teams that will have to run as perfect as they can to grab one of the fours qualifying spots.

Smithson Valley, New Braunfels Canyon, and McAllen Memorial, and Sharyland Pioneer have been expected to be some of the top teams in the region and It is no surprise those teams are looking good heading into the next part of the season.

However, McAllen high is looking to throw their hat into the ring.

Yesterday, we saw McAllen Memorial flex their muscles in the front of the race. Currently, they look as good as anybody in region 4-6A. Pioneer runs pretty tight and that is their best chance to ensure they get back to state. They were able to place their top four between Memorial's 3-5 almost giving them a win.

We also saw McAllen continue to make strides and moves towards the top. They ran to a third place finish behind last year's two state qualifiers inching closer to a realization of a state meet berth. When the season began, they would have been considered a year away with their youth. Having all sophomores, one more year of grace is easily understandable, but, don't expect McAllen to see it that way. They seem like they want to expedite next year to be this season.

We can say name the favorites all day and say who could and should make it out. However, the speculation will be put to rest next month as the teams who show up prepared the best and execute the best will be revealed on that day. One thing is for sure - it will be a good race.
