What To Watch For At Region 4 In Every Class

Region 4-6A

The individual girl 4-6A race has a bunch of sub 19:00 girls, but this race should come down to two runners and maybe just one. Alexa Rodriguez has been on a roll all season long and has also run fast all season long. She has a PR of 17:38 PR on the season from McNeil, but has several solo 18 low performances. Sophomore Sara Scott could make an attempt to hold on to Rodriguez, as she is also a very capable runner, but could elect to focus on a team race to ensure her Smithson Valley teams qualifies for state. Amongst all of the fast girls in the race, a sleeper of the group is Andrea De La Rosa. The Brownsville Rivera senior is undefeated and has yet to be challenged to run fast, but she is a front runner and prefers a fast start and this could be her break out race of 2018.

There is no shortage of capable teams in the girls race, but things should come down to San Antonio Reagan, New Braunfels, Austin Westlake, Austin Lake Travis, and Smithson Valley. The SV team is on one of the hottest team streaks in all of Texas.

The boys side will be complete chaos.

Individually, who knows what will happen and who will win. La Joya Juarez- Lincoln junior Freddy Calvillo possibly made himself the favorite with his Islander Splash and Mcneil races. He has actually been on a tear all season long and the region meet could be more of Calvillo.

He won't be alone as Jacob Hughey, Tristan Galvan, Trevor Williams, Evan Williams, Nathan Perez, and more will be in the push for qualifying spots. Region 4-6A has an unbelievable 30 runners at 16:00 and under on the season. This race will be GOOD!

The team race should belong to none other than Smithson Valley. They have several of those sub 16:00 runners and have been led by Clayton Wilkerson and Mason Garner. The Mcallen Memorial boys have been one of the top ranked 6A teams all season long and they look forward to getting back to the state meet as does Del Rio and New Braunfels Canyon.
