El Paso Cathedral senior Brandon Seagreaves collected his third straight TAPPS state title today in Waco, Texas. The win will be added to his collection of cross country state titles that makes his 7th place finish as a freshman the only one to elude him.
Seagreaves ran a 16:20, which is modest for his standards and compared to his 15:47 PR. The win was more than 15 seconds ahead of the second place finisher making the win all the more impressive.
With so many wins under his belt, you would think it is hard to get motivated to get up for another TAPPS race. However, what a win does for the Cathedral senior means is that he is in position to win a third triple crown.
Seagreaves has not only won on the cross country courses, he has also added state meet wins on the track. In 2016, he won the 1600m and 3200m races to add to his cross country win to give him the TAPPS 6A distance triple crown. He would follow that up again in 2017 as he again out ran the 6A competition for the three wins.
Winning a distance triple crown for a third time has got to be difficult, but that may be just the motivation he needs to keep putting it down and leave a legacy that is just about second to none.
