Just about everybody got their outdoor season started this past weekend. All around this great state, outdoor track meets were being conducted no matter what the weather conditions were. With that, there were many impressive performances.
Some of the teams that performed well over all were Houston Strake Jesuit, Austin St. Dominic Savio Catholic, San Antonio Reagan, and Fort Bend Marshall.
Houston Strake Jesuit
Strake Jesuit is a private school that runs with the public schools. Year in and year out, the gentlemen from Jesuit put together one of the best overall track and field teams in the state.
This weekend, the rolled out one of the best squads nationally.
Their 4x100 relay ran an impressive 41.08 time that surprised many and perhaps everyone that wasn't on their team bus. That time is the #1 time in the state and is good enough to have ranked them in the top 25 nationally at the end of 2018.
Then, their 4x400 relay followed up by doing their thing. The Crusader 4x400 relay is expected to be potent this year. They ended the 2018 season as the 4th best nationally with a 3:11.91. With most of their major components coming back, they dropped a 3:14.46.
Strake also got wins in the 3200m from Erik Lara in 9:53.49 and a second place in the 4x800 with a 8:15.44.
Austin St. Dominic Savio Catholic
This is the second private/catholic school on the list this week. St. Dominic Savio has some legit burners on their team and they had a great team overall performance in week 2.
Sprinter Autumn Wilson dropped a 12.36 for a win in the 100m and the a 24.67 in the 200 for another victory. Teammate Hali Murphy added a pair of impressive individual performances as well. She went 24.78 and 55.93 in the 200 and 400. Distance runner, Amy Nguyen showed that the team doesn't only have sprinters as she dropped a 11:58.42 in the 3200m.
The team also had some impressive relay times with their 4:10.22 in the 4x400 relay.
San Antonio Reagan
Reagan had big meets from both their girls and boys teams.
On Thursday, they had a ton of athletes litter the results and top 3 performances. The girls relays saw them drop a 47.24 in the 4x100 for the third fastest time in the state a 4:08.76 in the 4x400 as they won the meet, and a 1:44.48 in the 4x200 for another win.
Then Nyah Anderson threw 39-1 in the shot put and Selina Noe jumped 17-8 in the long jump both for wins. Add Taylen Wise's 37-2 triple jump and their freshmen phenom pole vaulters Alyssa Quinones-Mixon (school record 12-4) and Isabella Morell as the tandem went 1-2 this weekend.
The Reagan boys also had a ton of good finishes. They had several 1600m runners and hurdlers who scored big points at their meet. In the end, the dropped a 3:26.22 in the 4x400 to cap off their first weekend of the season.
Fort Bend Marshall
Much like San Antonio Reagan, they had big weekends from both the girls and boys squads. The girls had very good relay performances proving that they will once again be tough to beat again this year.
The Marshall girls went 47.70 in the 4x100, 1:41.17 for the fourth best time in Texas, and 3:52.59 in the 4x400 for the second fastest time in the state this year.
The Marshall boys had a ton of impressive individual performances this weekend led by Devon Achane and Bryson Stubblefield in the 100m as they went 10.67 and 10.72, but they had many more to get their season started.
Like the girls squad, they also had some big time impressive relay performances. They went 41.57 in the 4x100, 1:27.63 in the 4x200, and 3:20.71 to cruise to a victory in the 4x400 relay.
The season just began, but be on the look out for these teams all season long. Who knows, one or more of them just might take home a state championship this May.
