Michael Abeyta talks about his 800m win at the Region 1-5A Meet in Lubbock, TX.
In the 5A division we have our largest group of State qualifiers with 8 athletes who will run this coming weekend in Austin. Notable qualifiers in this talented group of athletes are Angelina Lujan from El Paso Parkland and Aeriel Garcia from El Paso Eastlake. Both girls are well known in the distance scene and have faced very tough competition all season long from some very game athletes. Aeriel saw her best race at the Nike Chandler Rotary Invitational when she dropped her PR in the 1600m with a time of 5:10.38.
Angelina also had a very consistent season and showed she was ready to step up her game when she ran her best in the 800m PR'ing with a time of 2:16.80. The real talk out of 5A is returning State Champ/Qualifier Michael Abeyta from El Paso Hanks. Michael has proven that he's not shy to top competition and at Regionals he showed why he still belongs in the mix. After taking a much needed break after Cross Country Abeyta seems recharged and intends to prove he can remain the top dog in the State.
