2019 UIL Team State Champions And How They Won

4A

Girls

The Canyon girls put on a team clinic en route to their UIL 4A Girls team title. They got key contributions from young and old, distances, sprints, relays, hurdles, and field events.

Freshman Breanna Stuart jump started things in the 3200m as she took individual gold and 10 team points and then mirrored that effort and contribution in the 1600m. Fellow distance runners Gabi Davis and Kelsee Dudley dominated the 800m by going first and second to add a total of 18 points

In the sprints, Alyssa Harris added six points with her third place in the 400m and senior Mackenzie Grimes brought in six points in the hurdles with her fourth and fifth place finishes in the two events.  Bringing in more sprint points was the 4x400 relay put in a tough performance for a 3:55.23 and 16 huge points.

Audrey Hughes dominated the 4A Girls throws as she won both the Shot Put (45-10) and the Discus (151-08) to help bring Canyon's total point count to 70 for the team win.

Boys

They say success breeds success. If that's the case, the same culture and climate that led to Waco La Vega's fall football state championship has helped them continue that this spring.

They added the school's second state championship of the year with the 2019 UIL 4A boys track and field team state championship.

La Vega swept the relays for a big 60 points, which was good enough for the win, but they then added 10 more points through individual events for good measure.
