Region 1 Meet Preview: Who Will Survive The Region Of Doom?

5A Girls

The Grapevine girls won the region last year with Amarillo second and El Paso Eastwood was third as they all qualified for the state meet.

This year, all three teams could be in the mix once again. Colleyville Heritage could be the other team with a good shot at joining them. The race could come down to an all out battle between Grapevine and Amarillo.

Here are the girls top four team finishes:

1. Grapevine

2. Amarillo

3. Colleyville Heritage

4. El Paso Eastwood

Individually, this may be one of the best races of the day. Aledo senior Gracie Morris missed last year's race due to injury, but is back and is running very well. Last year's winner Rachel Sutliff will once again be a front leader and could win her second straight regional title.

5A Boys

Last year, the anticipated race was the Eastwood - Grapevine showdown. The two teams could be at the fore front once again this year. The two surprise teams this year to come out of the region will be El Paso Hanks and Aledo. Mark it down!

Here are the boys top four team finishes:

1. El Paso Eastwood

2. Grapevine

3. El Paso Hanks

4. Aledo

Individually, the race will be a dandy. Two years ago, we saw Graydon Morris and Michael Abeyta duke it out all of the way to the last few meters. Next week, both guys should be healthy and ready to run fast. They will have company in the front pack as Elias Perez has proven to be able to run with the best. Helping bolster his team's state meet chances will be Roger Rivera, who is another of Hanks' low stick runners. Rivera burst onto the scene last year and could be ready to end his career with a strong championship season run.
