1A Girls
The girls from Happy want to leave Lubbock just that way and they could very well possibly do just that. If they run the way they have been so far this year, they could potentially repeat what they did last year. In 2018, they won the region and then won the state meet thanks to their number five and a tie breaking situation.
They graduated two of their top five runners and that makes their margin of victory less than it was last year. Sands finished fourth at last year's region meet but they are hungry this season
Hart and Nazareth are very good and should both be able to qualify to return to the state meet once again.
Here are the girls top four team finishes:
1. Happ
2. Nazareth
3. Sands
4. Hart
Individually, it should be a three girl race. Ropes senior Chloe Trull was third in both regionals and at the state meet and is has the top time heading into the regional meet. Esmerelda Espinoza is the other sub 13 minute runner heading into the regional meet. Then there is Happy's Emily Berry who was second at the regional as a freshman last year.
1A Boys
Shamrock did not have a great regional meet at last year's championships. This year could be completely different. They should head into the meet as the favorite based on this season's performances. Hayden Stroope and Alex Wilson lead the Shamrock squad and could help propel them to the state meet. The team battle could be a runaway, but keep an eye on Lenorah Grady.
Here are the girls top four team finishes:
1. Shamrock
2. Lenorah Grady
3. Sands
4. Hedley
Individually, the duo of Stroope and Wilson should go 1 - 2 overall, but Braxton Johnson of Groom is capable of running up front. Dylan Morales is the top returner from Crosbyton's outstanding state meet runner-up squad from last year and he is competitive enough to be a front runner.
