Pole Vault
One of the events to watch for will be the girls pole vault. Many of the vaulters like this facility and it is good to jump on.
Pole vault has been a busy event, perhaps the most contested event this year. Every season, pole vault meets and summits begin late November of each year, giving a lot of opportunity for the vaulters to get into a groove and rhythm.
Now that most of the athletes in this event have had several meets to get clicking, we can surely see who are the girls to watch out for this weekend.
Coppell freshman Sky Schuller, has had quite the indoor season for such a young athlete. She competed well in several events this indoor season. She is a trackie as she is all over the track and in the field. She is a two time AAU Junior Olympic Games National Champion, proving that she can do it all
The pole vault is one of her strengths. Schuller jumped over 12 feet on two occasions this season already. She won the Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic a couple of weeks ago with a 12-1 and her 12-7 to win at the Texas Elite Pole Vault Expo Explosion has her ranked as the number two vaulter in Texas.
Chloe Taylor is another vaulter who has jumped over 12 this indoor season. She went 12-4 last weekend in Nevada at the National Pole Vault Summit and will be looking to continue that rhythm.
Senior Remy Guertel is yet another girl in the competition who has jumped over 12 feet. The Prosper vaulter jumped 12-2 in Nevada last weekend; she will also be looking to keep a hot streak going.
High Jump
There will also be good action happening on the high jump mats. Some of the top girls in Texas this indoor season will all be in Lubbock this weekend.
We already mentioned that Sky Schuller can do it all, well the high jump is another one of her strong events. She is Texas' fifth ranked indoor high jumper with a 5-4 performance she turned in at Texas A&M.
There two jumpers tied for the top ranking in Texas at 5-6. The Cinco Ranch junior and 2019 Pan American finalist Daniella Munoz jumped her 5-6 last weekend at the Carl Lewis High School Invitational.
Lewisville Marcus senior Maddie Meiner also went 5-6 last weekend. She took the win at the Arkansas High School Invitational making this competition a very good one to watch.
3,000M
The distance events will provide some outstanding entertainment for the crowd at Texas Tech. Some of the top distance runners in Texas and some nationally will compete including two Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) South teammates.
Krianne Mcbride has made the adjustment to high school level running and is becoming a force to deal with. In the fall, she received an at-large bid for NXN and she is following that national performance with a hot indoor season. McBride sits as the Texas number one ranking in the 800m with a 2:14.50 best and ranked second in the Mile with a 4:58.83. We'll now see what her fitness is like as she tests herself in the 3K.
El Paso Franklin junior Eva Jess also had a superb fall. There weren't many races she didn't win and she was also an NXN qualifier. We will see how that national experience transitions in her first race on the track.
Breanna Stuart had a great cross season as well and will get her indoor track season started this weekend. Stuart had a great meet here last season and will look to do it again this weekend. The Canyon sophomore won two individual state championships last year and two team championships as well.
Celerity TC won the A&M 4x800 relay and Hurricanes finished second
400m
The girls 400m will be entertaining with several big time indoor performers from this season. The top 400m runner this season Chermariea Hardy sits atop of the rankings with a 55.11 from A&M. Two weeks later, we'll get to see how fast the Clear Falls senior is ready to go now.
TAPPS star Hali Murphy will compete in the 400m as well. The Austin St. Dominic Savio Catholic sophomore ran 56.55 last weekend in Houston to land her the fourth ranking in Texas.
DeSoto junior Logan Neely is ranked number seven in Texas with her 56.91 that she turned in last weekend at Arkansas. She will look to go even faster this weekend against some top competition.
DeSoto senior Cierra Wash will also compete. The Baylor signee and third place finisher at the UIL 6A state meet will have the opportunity to make her mark on the indoor season.
60m Hurdles
The girls hurdles will be must see!
Literally, some of the top girls state wide and nationally will be in Lubbock to compete. US No. Jalaysi'ya Smith is fresh off of an excellent 8.50 race last weekend in Arkansas. She finished second by an eye lash and will be looking to return to her winning ways and top spot nationally.
Her teammate, Jayla Hollis is the US No. 7 ranked hurdler with her 8.72 race two weeks ago. The Arkansas signee could be in tip top form this weekend as she looks to climb up the ranking and lower her time.
Keep an eye on The Woodlands senior Alexndra Webster. The Oregon signee has yet to run the hurdles this season, so we will get to witness her opener. Webster was second in the 300H and third in the 100H last year at the UIL 6A state meet. She has a 24.65 indoor 200m PR this year at A&M, so her speed is there; lets see if her hurdling is.
4x800
The girls 4x800 relay will be on FIRE. Celerity TC, the San Antonio based club and the fastest club team in the state will blaze the track and look to drop their time. They broke the Texas A&M meet record two weeks ago; a record they broke that once belonged to the Hurricanes TC. That Hurricanes team will be in the race and will strive to get a win over the team who dethroned their top mark at A&M.
