In the first 400 meters, Logan Courtney of Lorena took his spot in the front of the pack and held it with a split of 1:10.06 in the first lap. Marco Rey of Presidio stayed directly behind Courtney in second place with a split of 1:10.50.
Approaching the bell lap, Courtney remained the leader. William Boyce of Onalaska began to separate from the rest of the pack in the last 200 meters. With a powerful kick, Boyce stole first place. This was his third win of the day. Earlier, he captured the gold in the 800m and the 3200m. Boyce finished with the time of 4:26.37. Marco Rey pulled through the pack to place 2nd with a 4:27.56 and Wyatt Hoover from Poth finished third with a 4:27.94.
