The 2020 UIL 1A cross country state champion Isaiah Billinsgley quickly took his spot in the front of the pack in the first 400 meters making his split a 1:06.71. Jordan Zarate stayed steps behind Billingsley with a split of 1:11.23 at the 800 meter mark. Brandon Passmann made his way up to Billingsley leaving Zarate in the third position.
Billingsley and Passmann stayed tightly knit until there were only two laps remaining. Before the bell lap approached and Passmann took the lead and opened up. Passmann kicked in the last 200 meters to create a gap between the two. Passmann came down the backstretch and took the gold with the time of 9:16.59. Isaiah Billingsley, now with his new school Tilden McMullen took second place with the time of 9:23.59. Jordan Zarate comes in in third place with a 10:00.79.
