
The fist large 5K race of the 2021 Texas Cross Country season featured superb individual competition at the front of both Varsity races at the Plano ISD XC Invitational in Plano last Saturday. Brenna Zerby (Sr) from Allen won the girls race over Erin O'Brien (Sr) of Frisco Memorial by one second. The margin of victory for McKinney Boyd's Jack Morrissey (Sr) over Amarillo senior Miles Cox was not much greater in the boys varsity section.
McKinney Boyd decisively won the boys race, with each scorer displacing the corresponding scorer of second place Amarillo. The girls of Dallas Highland Park relied on its traditionally strong line-up 1-5 to finish ahead of second-place Allen and McKinney Boyd, who also showed strong early-season form in their average 5K.
As is common with early-season races, there is a lot of uncertainty in these speed ratings; we will get a lot more clarity on their accuracy as the season progresses. As more evidence accumulates, these ratings will possibly show to be sl...
