Margaret Thompson of Hockaday emerged as a freshman during XC season two years ago, and she's made a habit of winning almost every race she enters. In her first-ever 2K steeple at the BVU Invitational hosted by St. Mark's, she finished second in a time of 7:22.16. She had never practiced hurdles.
Two weeks later, at the prestigious Texas Relays, she drops almost 19 seconds to finish in 7:03.28, the third-fastest time in Texas high school history.
The 2K steeple is late Thursday in Austin. By Saturday afternoon, Margaret is at the prestigious Jesuit-Sheaner Relays where she PRs in the 800: 2:19.27.
Just a sophomore, Margaret Thompson's future is bright, regardless of any hurdle in her way.
