Kevin Sanchez Led Start To Finish In UIL 6A 3,200m

Kevin Sanchez a Junior from Austin Vandegrift had the fastest time coming in to today's race.

It was a steady pace with Sanchez taking the early lead followed by Nathanael Berhane a Senior from Wylie and Hector Solis a Senior from PSJA North. They were all still tightly packed through one lap.

Sanchez maintained the lead but there was a lot of jostling for position going on behind him. After two complete laps, Sanchez came through with a time of 1:07.18 followed by Solis and Berhane.

Sanchez continued to lead the pack as they ran single file behind him with five laps to go. Reese Vannerson a Junior from Houston Strake Jesuit moved into second with four laps to go followed by Solis.

Sanchez and Vannerson pulled away from the rest of the pack with three laps to go. Berhane was  running by himself still in third place.

With two laps remaining Sanchez and Vannerson were running 1,2. Sanchez came through with a time of 1:09.57, they were distancing themselves from the rest of the group.

At the bell, it was Sanchez with a slight lead over Vannerson with Thomas Kubala a Junior from Klein moved into third with Luis Pastor a Junior from El Paso Coronado and Berhane all in the mix. Sanchez with 200 meters pulled away from Vannerson to secure the gold medal with a time of 8:57.85. Vannerson finished 2nd with a time of 9:01.17 and Berhane finished in 3rd place with a time of 9:02.88.
