The senior started the year off in the 300 meter hurdles with a 37.67, just .04 off his 37.63 that earned him the 2021 UIL 5A state runner-up in the event.

He would excel all season long, not only going undefeated in the event but also running three 37 second races and three 36 second races. His 36.14 PR came in Austin to win him the state championship and the US No. 3 ranking.

The University of Texas signeed proved again this season that he is a complete hurdler. He ran seven sub 14 second races including a 13.56 (w) PR and a 13.63 to finish runner-up in the 110 meter hurdles and a US No. 5 ranking.

Blackwood's parents are both University of Oklahoma track and field legends; his mother a was a hurdle genius and his father was an Olympic sprinter for Jamaica. That explains his innate propensity in the hurdles; it also explains his improvement this season in the sprints. He ran 200m PR of 21.53 and 47.80 in the 400m this season.
