Manvel junior Christian James runs to the finish line for the win in the 800m at the Shadow Creek-Manvel Inv.

The Shadow Creek-Manvel Invitational makes you automatically thing of the sprints, relays, and jump events. In recent past, those two schools alone have had abundant talent in those events as has the schools that attend their meet. However, this past weekend, it was the boys 800m that stole the show.
It was able to be an impressive race due to 10 boys running 2:00 and under including six of them at 1:57 or better. For a February meet to have that many top performance deserves it's mention.
Clear Springs junior Jacob Tabor entered the meet as a TX top-5 competitor in the event and the prohibitive favorite. Tabor took his confidence into the event and took charge of the race from the start. He had teammates Gabriel Tubbs and Jack Reeves in tow and the three used their familiarity with one another from training to help ensure this would be an honest race pace.
Tabor led the race to just over 56 seconds through the first 400m with fellow juniors Bruce Prince and Christian James both from Manvel and a Pearland duo of Shawn Freeman and Joshua Estes nestling themselves in the lead pack.

Tabor was able to press the pace at the 500m through 600m marks and began to pull away from the rest of the field with the exception of James. The two would create space between them and the rest of the heat setting up a two-man race over the last 200m. James who did less of the pressing throughout the race by finding smooth running lanes the entire race had more life left in his legs and overtook Tabor in the final 100m for the win. James finished with a winning time of 1:54.39 to Tabor's 1:55.31.
Prince would finish strong and ahead of the rest of the field in 1:56.58 as Freeman (1:57.33,) Tubbs (1:57.44), Estes (1:57.57), and Reeves (1:58.12) would all cross the line under 2:00. Joseph Hernandez (Sheldon King), Angel Jaime (Channelview), and Chance Jones (Galena Park North Shore) would round out the top-10 as well as with 2:00.x performances.
