This track and field season, MileSplit TX will bring you new series called Under The Radar. We will attempt to identify student-athletes who may not have been appropriately evaluated by college coaches and who are not heavily recruited. These will be student-athletes we think will be assets on the collegiate level.
If you have a student-athlete who you believe we should consider for this piece, email william.grundy@flosports.tv (include test scores) with the subject line Under The Radar.

As a sophomore running 4:20 in the 1600m, Cedar Park Vista Ridge distance runner Pierce Nowell had just found his calling. He would soon make the switch from basketball player/runner to devoting his time and life to running.
Nowell worked on both getting faster and increasing his mileage and those efforts resulted in him going 1:58, 4:19, and 9:38 as a junior. After a serious cross country season where he saw more improvement with a personal best of 15:39 and consistency in the mid to high 15s, a newfound confidence enters.
The senior now begins the 2024 track and field season with that new high confidence level in a sport that has become a lifestyle. The 2024 track and field season will see Nowell run for scholarship money as he plans to continue competing at the college level.
Nowell has the grades to run anywhere and plans to prove his worth on the track this spring. Pierce Nowell is definitely and under-the-radar recruit.
