The stars across the country in high school track and field converged onto New York City's Armory for the Nike Indoor Nationals.
They closed the indoor track season with a bang as they decided who the national champions of the 2024 indoor track season would be.
Even though most of Texas athletes stayed here at home, you can never have the best of the sport without a strong Texas representation.
The representation was there and it was REAL!
Texas ended the competition with nine national champions that included five on the girls side and four on the boys.
Elizabeth Leachman (Boerne Champion) was a two-time national champion this weekend and ran away with several records. She negative split her way to the two-mile national championship with a meet record, facility record, as well as the sophomore class national record at 9:44.16.
A day later, Leachman dominated the track in the 5,000m to the tune of a new National Record of 15:28.90.
Texas girls dominated the jumps and swept the national championships. San Antonio Reagan senior Mackenziee Dagrosa won the girls high jump with a 5-10.50 jump. In the horizontal jumps with a 20-8 jump from Cypress Park's Sydnee Burr in the long jump win and then a 42-6 winning leap from Prosper Rock Hill's Skylynn Townsend, the deal was sealed.
Madeleine Fey (Killeen Chaparral) added a win in the shot put when she ther 45-9.75 and Madison Morgan from Houston Episcopal won the race walk in 7:19.87.
The boys winners covered the sprints and the jump events.
Kameron Franklin won the high jump with a clearance of 7-0.50 and Jayden Keys ruled the runway and pit in the long jump with his 24-6.25 best of the field.
Cordial Vann was spectacular in every round of the 60m. He won the finals with a 6.76 run and Lake Belton sophomore Kendrick Jones Jr. won the 200m with a 21.12 run.
