Most Improved Texans At The Indoor 200m

The 2025 indoor track and field season for Texas athletes and teams is just about over for the most part. While there are some who will go on to compete in the Millrose Games as well as national championship events, most athletes will shift their focus completely to the outdoor season.

So with the outdoor season around the corner (a week away for some), we are going to look at one of the hottest indoor track and field season events this season....the 200m.

The girls and boys 200m was performed at a high level by the Texans this indoor season. There were many sub 24-second runs on the girls side and a flurry of times better than 25.0. In fact, Skylar Brazzell (Northwest Nelson) and Mariah Maxwell (Humble Atascocita) are currently ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the country with their 23.26 and 23.34 bests this month.

They lead three other girls (No. 6 Nia Trammell (Fort Worth Wyatt) - 23.61, No. 8 Brooke Lloyd (Humble Summer Creek) - 23.64, and No. 9 Taylor Nunez (Universal City Randolph) - 23.69) as US top ten performers in the indoor 200m.

GIRLS

BOYS

On the boys end, Texans were very productive as well. There are three boys who have run under 21-seconds this indoor season and a total of 39 boys under 22.0.

Justin Stewart (Hurst Bell) leads the country in the event with his 20.94 run from the 2025 Texas High School Indoor Championship. Also under 21-seconds this year and ranked No. 2 is Jonathan Simms (Allen) at 20.95 and Braylin Byrd (Tomball Memorial) with his 20.99. Both ran their performances at the Texas Tech Wes Kittley High School Invitational.

Also ranked in the top 10 in the country are US No. 5 Tate Taylor (San Antonio Harlan) at 21.09, No.8 Andrew Wright (San Antonio Lutheran) 21.31 , and No. 10 Abram Reagan (Austin Lake Travis) 21.34.
