Every week we will bring you members of either the freshman and sophomore classes who are having a good season and who we believe might become leaders or stars in the sport
GIRLS
McKenzi Roberson (Shadow Creek)
Roberson gained experience last season on the Shadow Creek state medaling relay teams. She also qualified for the Area Championship round in the 100m and Region 3-6A in the 200m.
It now appears she is going to be hard not to see her advance further individually this spring. This indoor season, Roberson is the top ranked sophomore girl in all three sprint events (7.66-60m), (24.25-200m), and (56.67-400m). Be on the lookout for an even more dangerous Shark in the Region 3 waters in Roberson.
Winter Eans (DeSoto)
Eans was mentioned in our Edition 1: You Don't Know My Name, Yet article yesterday as one of the runners who should make it hard not to know as the year continues.
Here is why -- she has some of the fastest indoor performances in the freshman class. She has indoor season best runs of 8.88 in the 60-meter hurdles, 7.68 in the 60m, and 24.54 in the 200m. Look for her to drop time in both the hurdle and sprint events.
Corie Wilmington (Fort Bend Marshall)
Wilmington should give exciting vibes since she is yet another young hurdler in the Fort Bend Marshall stable. Even more so, Marshall still has their extraordinary hurdler Dior Williams in the camp for Wilmington to train with.
The sophomore has run 9.00 in the 60H and has even dropped a 57.32 in the 400m at the Arkansas High School Invitational. Look for Wilmington to possibly crack the relay depth charts this year at Marshall and play a part in the hurdles and possibly 400m events.
Lauren Carrothers (Prosper Walnut Grove)
Carrothers attends a fairly new high school in the DFW area in Walnut Grove HS and she has also suited up for her club team Major Impact during the indoor season. No matter what uniform she wears, she is showing that she is a jumper to be on the lookout for.
In Texas, you have to really be producing some good marks in the girls jump events and Carrothers is doing just that. She has gone 18-6.50 in the long jump this year, but the triple jump is where she is crushing it as well. Carrothers has a 39-9.50 best this indoor season from the Arkansas High School Invitational. Keep your eyes open for her on the runways and sand pits this season.
Sophia Lopez (Round Rock Stony Point)
Yet another sophomore girl on the list proves that there is linear improvement in this group of young ladies. Lopez has been on a sophomore tear going back to the cross country season where she qualified for the state meet and went for a 18:21 for 15th place at the 6A state meet. The 800m just might be her best race though.
Lopez started off with a 2:19 at the 2025 Texas High School Indoor Championship and then improved to a 2:16.68 this weekend to win the Texas Tech Wes Kittley High School Invitational. She has a 5:31 mile best this indoor season and a 10:49 3K.
BOYS
Jordan Riggs (Fort Bend Marshall)
You might have heard his name at a meet running for Buffalo's Run TC or the H-Town Hurricanes. You will continue to hear his name and see his face until he decides to hang up his spikes to end his running career. The Fort Bend Marshall sophomore was fantastic in his frosh campaign and was a valuable member of the fast and forward moving Buffaloes. He ended the 2024 season with a runner-up finish at the 2024 UIL State Championships with a 47.55 personal best run.
This indoor season, Riggs has been dropping some serious times to start the follow-up to his freshman season. He ran a 7.01 60m at the Carl Lewis Invitational and then went berserk in Lubbock this past weekend dropping a 21.67 personal best in the 200m at the Texas Tech Wes Kittley High School Invitational to follow up his 22.28 season opener. He then dropped two sub 48-second 400m runs with a 47.57 in the prelims and a whopping 46.48 winning performance in the finals.
He is ranked third in the nation in the indoor 400-meters.
Oswald (Trey) Jacquet III (CE King)
Oswald is already being recognized as a great football player and elite prospect at the DL position. The freshman is also a force to be reckoned with in the throws events and he is already making waves this indoor season.
Jacquet has competition best throws of 54-11.25 from the Carl Lewis Invitational and 50-11.5 at the 2025 Texas High School Indoor Championship. He is an acclaimed thrower on the club age-group scene, but as he now is in the high school rank, look for him to get used to throwing the high school implements and then really take off.
