2025 UIL 5A Boys 300-Meter Hurdles
The 2025 UIL Boys 5A 300-meter hurdles was all about the electric performance of Ja'Shaun Lloyd of Corsicana, who came in with eyes on both the state title and the longstanding record set by RGIII. From the gun, Lloyd surged out of lane 5 and cleared the first hurdle in commanding fashion, instantly establishing himself as the man to beat. While his technical execution wasn't flawless-he eased up slightly near the finish and had a few stutter steps into some hurdles-his raw speed and power were more than enough to separate him from the field, as he stormed to gold in an outstanding 35.78.
Behind Lloyd, Dameon Smith Jr. of Marshall delivered a strong race of his own, finishing second in 36.72, while Jamison Lewis of Fort Bend Marshall, already a medalist earlier in the meet, added another to his collection with a third-place finish in 37.51. Early on, Temoc Zamora of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial and Ulises Feliz of La Porte were both running technically sharp races and looked poised to challenge for the podium, but they couldn't quite match the top-end speed of the medalists down the stretch.
Although Lloyd ultimately fell just short of breaking the record, his performance left no doubt about his dominance in the event. His combination of speed and strength made him untouchable on this day, capping off a memorable meet with a well-earned gold.
