2025 UIL 2A Boys 400m
The 2025 UIL Boys 2A 400 meters turned into a dominant family affair, with Francis Patanpatan and Karl Patanpatan of Hawley stealing the show. Coming in as the top seed with a 48.39, Francis wasted no time asserting himself, exploding out of the blocks in lane 5 and immediately separating from the field. By the time the runners hit the final 100 meters, Francis was clearly in command, powering through the homestretch to stop the clock at an impressive 48.01.
Karl, fresh off his earlier 800-meter title, showed his range and toughness by surging into second place from lane 8 with a 48.56 finish. The brothers' cross country background was evident as they both held strong over the second half of the race while others faded. Austen Pena of Ganado, running in lane 4, stayed composed and closed well to claim the bronze in 49.53, holding off a tight pack that included Nate Klement of Lindsay and Jose Carranza of Bovina.
The Patanpatan twins' 1-2 finish underscored their incredible talent and versatility, and with both having cross country and track success, their potential for future breakthroughs looks bright. The race also showcased a deep field, with six athletes dipping under 50 seconds, making it one of the more competitive 2A 400 finals in recent years.
