Francis Patanpatan Wins A close 3-Way Battle In 2A Boys 200m

2025 UIL 2A Boys 200m

The 2A Boys 200m final at the 2025 UIL State Championships delivered a photo-finish thriller, as three seniors battled down the homestretch in a race that was nearly too close to call. Coming off a win earlier in the day in the 400m, Francis Patanpatan (Hawley) returned to the track with momentum-and a lane 6 assignment that put him in perfect position to strike. Despite being slightly overlooked coming into the final with a season best of 21.65, he was up against the likes of Kason Brown (Big Lake Reagan County) and DeMarcus Lewis (Wellington), who entered with superior credentials-Brown at 21.37 and Lewis at 21.35.

But it was Patanpatan who came out of the blocks sharpest. He exploded out of the curve, making up stagger and pulling into the lead coming into the homestretch. His strong 400m background showed as he maintained form and rhythm despite the looming presence of Brown and Lewis charging from behind. Both opponents closed with fury over the final meters, and the crowd roared as the trio leaned through the line in near unison.

The result went to the camera-and ultimately to Patanpatan. His time of 21.54 secured his second state title of the day by the slimmest of margins. Brown clocked 21.55 for silver, and Lewis was just a hair back in 21.59 for bronze. It was one of the most tightly contested sprints of the meet, and a defining moment in Patanpatan's exceptional day at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
