2025 UIL 2A Girls 1,600m
Cara Sims (Elysian Fields) and Kaycei Salazar (La Villa) went head-to-head to determine the top distance runner of the meet after Sims won the 3200m and Salazar the 800m earlier in the meet.
The duo went out quickly and were about even through the first lap, but then Sims pulled away on the next two laps with splits of 78s and 77s before closing with a 1:12.97 final lap. She broke the 2A meet record of 5:04.75 set by Kelsey Hermes from Lindsay with her new standard time of 5:03.92.
Salazar slowed down but was able to hold on for the silver medal with her time of 5:13.35. The race for third place was a good one as Alexis Wade (Farwell) and Presley Long (Hamilton) duked it out. In the end, Wade held off Long to take third place in 5:15.24.
