What a race by Port Aransas junior John Zunig. Zunig won the race by over 0:30 seconds. He had a strong finish to his season, winning Region 4 and then moving on to capture the state title. He was so over joyed after the run he slid on his knees into the finish, and after got back up and continued to run more! Finishing behind him was Big Sandy senior Marcus Allen in second and Valley View's Joe Don Pembroke in 3rd. Don Pembroke led Valley View to their 2nd straight state title. They won scoring 28 points over New Summerfield. Also note all the guys in 2A had to battle an extremely sloppy course as the last runners of the day, when 11 other races and thousands of runners had already run on it.

It was another big win by a freshman (see 1A girls) in this race as well. Valley Mills Hanna Dillard took the win with a comfortable finish over everyone else. She didn't have much to say after the big win but you could see the excitement from her cheering squad. The girls from Hamilton took home the team title scoring 45 points. The teams from Gruver and Sundown placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.
