Analysis: Gomez is no longer a youngster and is looking to make some major waves. He qualified for the UIL 6A state meet as a freshman and a sophomore, but this could be his real breaking out party. Last year, Gomez ran 15:19.60 at McNeil to show his talent and fitness level. He also ran 15:44.48 for a true 5K at the state meet.
On the track, Gomez has also put the state on notice. He has impressive PRs of 1:58.63 for 800m, 4:14.29 for 1600m, and 9:19.56 for 3200m. Qualifying for the UIL 6A state track meet in the 3200 as a freshman and in the 1600m last year, he clearly has the wheels to have a very fast cross season.
