Analysis: Armendariz is another two time state cross country meet qualifier. In 2016, he raced very well and had strong performances throughout the season. The championship part of the season is when Armendariz started finding his groove. He put together back to back wins at district and regionals before PRing at the UIL 5A state meet in 15:29.54 for a fourth place finish. He then followed that up a week later with a solid run at the NXN South Regional.
The state is loaded in 5A as it returns a lot of solid guys. Can Armendariz capitalize on last year? If so, he will need to channel his inner 2016 track success when he took third at the state meet in the 3200m with 9:31.37 and his ninth place 1600m finish and his 4:23.94 PR. The 5A state title is in within reach, but some top dogs stand in the way.
