Athlete: GRAYDON MORRIS

Year: Sophomore, Class of 2020

School: Aledo High School

Analysis: Just like his twin sister did last season, Morris started the season competing at the big meets against the big dogs. Morris placed high in those meets and he continued to do so all season. His fastest time on the season was 14:58.68 at the McNeil Invitational and his true 5K PR was 15:06.40. To beat Morris last year, you either had to be a state or national champion and at worse have earned a medal at the UIL state cross country meet. After placing third at the UIL 5A state meet, Morris traveled to the Foot Locker South Regional meet in North Carolina and ended up making history. Morris qualified for the Foot Locker Nationals and became first freshman since 2000 to qualify for the national meet from the South Region and only the second Freshman period, in the last 16 years.

After Foot Locker Nationals, Morris suffered an injury that put him on the sideline for most of the outdoor season. He was finally able to practice and compete in time for districts. He was able to develop the fitness good enough to go 4:16.50 in the 1600m and 9:17.90 for 3200m. Morris qualified for the UIL 5A state track meet in the 3200m and took second place.

How fast can Morris go this season and can he make anymore history?
