State Championship Boys 3-A Preview
Why: Luling is trying to win a state title...again, for the eighth straight year Luling eyes a straight title. They have won since 2010 and there isn't much standing in the way. They've been running at a moderate start to the season until they broke out at their district meet. At district, they ran a 15:59 team average that dropped a bomb and catapulted them into the top 10 in the Flo50 rankings.
The only team standing in the way of title number 8 for Luling is Tornillo. Last year, Tornillo gave Luling a run for their money and it all came down to the #5 runner. Luling won the title 50-75 as the #5 for luling finished in 17th place and the Tornillo #5 finished in 38th. Luling graduate a couple of seniors that they depended on, but they have several good freshmen. Can Tornillo take advantage of Luling's graduation or will Luling stand strong and end up at the top once again?
Individuals: Buster Roberts is a big time runner and one of the best in the state. In 2015, he placed second at state and then he took third last year. This may be the year he adds an individual title to go with those many team titles he has won. His challenge for the top spot should come from Vanderbilt junior Kevin Baez, Tornillo senior Daniel Amaya, and Pilot Point junior Adam Mendoza.
