All the Katy ISD boys and girls cross country teams get their seasons going Saturday morning on familiar turf in the Katy ISD Invitational at Bear Creek Park.
Eleven boys teams and 10 girls teams will be in their first big race of the year and the coaches and runners both get a chance to actually compete after months of grueling long-distance training.
"It will be good to get out there against other teams," said Cinco Ranch boys coach Gary Derks, who hopes to take the Cougars to the Class 5A state meet in Round Rock in November for the second year in a row. "You've been getting out there all summer early in the morning and running and that first meet, when you start in June, seems like it's never going to get here. Well, now it's here. It's time. "
