Week #10

Monday

My first day of college. Not classes, those start next week. Today we had meetings, and had to get our physicals and stuff. It was boring, then we go around 5 to meet up for our run, to find out practice was cancelled due to weather. We ended up running as a group but not having an official practice. We did a 45 minute run through a loop called medium cemetery. There's some dirt roads, but for the most part there is pavement. It was a busy first day. I got around 6.5 miles.

Tuesday

We all wake up at 6 am or earlier because of the storms. We are waiting for the text that practice is cancelled. We get no text so Steeven and I head up to the field house. As soon as we get there we get the text that practice is delayed until 7:30. More people show up then we find out it got delayed another 30 minutes. We ended up going to the gym playing some volleyball and soccer for a little bit then it gets delayed till 10:30. After that, most of us end up going to get breakfast at the Cafe. Then heading back. We ended up just cancelling and doing the run at 5. Which the weather had past but it was hot. Very hot, we did a tempo/ fartlek run. It was 4x5 minutes on at 5:36 pace with a minute recovery. The run was actually very good. I felt strong and ended up finishing around 5:15. We got around 4.5 with the warm up, then a mile cool down. So overall we got around 6.5 -7 miles in. Me and ricky went to go ice after and it felt amazing to be back in the whirlpool.

Wednesday

This morning we went to do 4 mile run and then do our stretches and sort of a pre-race warmup type workout. It was relaxing and a easy run. The evening run was a little more fun, we were running as a pack and just got to know each other. We ended up doing 6 overall in the afternoon.

Total-10 miles.

Thursday

Pre meet day. This morning Coach sent us out on a easy 5 mile run. Nothing too serious, just because we have a time trial tomorrow. We had an afternoon session to where we did 15 minute warm up. Then doing our stretches. It took about an hour, so it was a different than my normal pre race routine. It was a little shorter than my normal routine, but I just tried to stay focused and get ready for tomorrow's race.

Total Miles- 7.

Friday

It feels good to get back to racing. We had a 4 mile time trial on the track today. We did our 15 minute warm up together. Then we all went off by ourselves on the field to do our own warm up routine. The girls went first doing a 4k on the track. Then it was us. We were told to treat it like a race so thats exactly what I did. We went and immediately I end up in the front, not leading but sitting back in 3rd to 5th, the first mile. Then I move up and start staying on Ricky's hip then he took off so I started getting on Alberts. He slowed down so I past him up. Then I just stuck in 3rd for the majority of the race. Behind Ricky and Andrew. With 200 meters to go I went, I tried to catch up to Andrew and not let Trevor pass by me. He was riding my hip for the last half of the race. I ended up finishing 3rd with a 22:07. I was averaging 5:32 pace. I was feeling really good. I was ready to get out there. After that we cooled down for about 10 minutes. I got about 3.5 for the warmup and cool down.

Total Miles- 7.5

Saturday

This Morning we had our long run. We went out to 4 corners to do the run. It was for the most part a dirt road. We had the option to do 60-90 minutes. Most of us went to do 80. Some went 70 and only Alex went 90. Me, Ricky, Mo and Trevor ran together for the first half of the run but they headed back at 35 to do 70. Me, Turner and Mo ran together for most of the last half of the run. Then Mo dropped off and me and Turner just kept going. We ended up running 11.6 miles. We were averaging 6:40- 6:50 pace majority of the run. I was feeling good until the last part. Before we get on the highway there were multiple hills, some of them were steep and the others were just small but continuous. It was a good long run, and then some of us went to go ice after which was a better feeling.

Total miles - 11.5

Sunday

Today was a rest day.

Week in Review

This week I felt very solid, I was sore a little bit but ice baths and taking care of myself helped a lot. It was good to run with a team again, and get back to competing. I feel like I am in the best shape that I have ever been. It definitely was a fun week, and I am enjoying college life.
